In Savannah Georgia there is the third largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the United States, following the parades in New York and Chicago.
However, if you take into consideration that the entire town is involved, you will find it to have the largest population ratio of them all! Schools are closed, everything goes green and the townspeople party like there is no tomorrow. It is a sight to behold. Young and old, rich and poor everyone is Irish on this day. From the riverfront to the heart of the City there is singing and dancing till the wee hours.
Now for those who might not be familiar with Savannah, it is an historic seaport located on the Savannah River. Boasting a rich history that is kept in pristine condition by a ever-vigilant Historic Society. The city still has the picturesque park like Squares designed by Ogelthorpe in 17. Black Beard the Pirate made it a regular port of call. It was never touched during the civil war and General Sherman made his headquarters.
Forrest Gump told his story from a park bench in Savannah. Truly one of the most beautiful Cities on the planet. If you have a chance to go there make sure you take a ride on the riverboat and say "Hey" to Captain Jonathan Claughton of the River Street Riverboat Company.
