Eagle Scout Bobblehead

Grandfather Moats was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Kansas. In fact, all of the Uncles and Great Uncles on that side of the family were Eagle Scouts. This Project was an honor and a privilege to do.

To obtain that degree represents a tremendous amount of hard work and tireless dedication and we certainly respect this young man's achievement.

One of the interesting aspects about this piece is all of the items depicted are representational of his journey to obtaining the level of Eagle Scout. The challenge was to design and emphasize the main elements, which are significant to the story being told without becoming too cluttered. The design was second in importance to the story because the purpose of the Bobblehead was to be a personal surprise gift.

The concept drawing shows the detail of the merit badges and sash. Each badge has a distinctive color. Bear in mind the finished piece was only 7.5 inches high.

A likeness sketch is created to develop the overall attitude and expression of the subject. The emphasis is on the head (Hence the name Bobblehead:) and the trick here is to enlarge the head about 3 times the ratio to the body. At the same time you are distorting the facial features to compensate for the obvious size differential and maintain the original expression or look of the likeness sketch.
